Which mode to choose for freight Turkey
Road freight — 7–20 days
How the route runs: Iran → the Caspian → Turkmenistan
There are two roads from Turkey and they are not equivalent. Through Iran and Turkmenistan is shorter and cheaper but depends on Iranian transit. Through Georgia, Azerbaijan and the Caspian ferry is dearer and involves waiting for a sailing at Baku, but avoids Iran. The route is chosen per consignment, not once and for all.
From Turkey trucks bring textiles and finished clothing, furniture and fittings, building materials and ceramics, food-production equipment, cosmetics and household chemicals. Much of it is groupage from small factories against a specific order.
What to watch on this lane
- The route through Iran needs transit permits and depends on when they are issued; the Caspian ferry leg adds loading and unloading and ties the schedule to sailings.
- Textiles travel hanging or in cartons — that decides both the volume and the price, so confirm the packing method before the quote.
- Turkish goods often need a certificate of conformity; food equipment and tableware add a sanitary clearance.
- During the Turkish holiday season, late July into August, factories close and dispatches slip by weeks.
Air freight — 3–7 days
How the route runs: Istanbul
Istanbul is a major hub and flights to Tashkent are daily. For the textiles and fittings most often shipped from Turkey, air is usually used for urgent top-ups to a truck already on its way.
Air from Turkey brings seasonal clothing collections, fabric samples, spare parts and components, cosmetics and perfume, medical devices — anything where the consignment is small and the date decides.
What to watch on this lane
- Perfume and aerosols are dangerous goods by air: a safety data sheet is required or the consignment will not be accepted.
- Hanging garments take a lot of volume — on volumetric weight such a consignment can cost more than its mass suggests.
- Flights from Istanbul are frequent and transit is stable; the bottleneck is usually not the flight but handling at the arrival airport.
- Medical devices need permits — without them the cargo sits in the airport warehouse and storage is charged by the day.
Sea and container freight — 30–50 days
How the route runs: Mersin → Bandar Abbas → Poti
By sea from Mersin or Istanbul the container goes either to Bandar Abbas in Iran and onward by truck, or to Poti in Georgia and across the Caspian. There is no sea route into Uzbekistan, so sea freight from Turkey always has a second, overland leg.
By sea from Turkey come large consignments of building materials and ceramics, furniture, containerised equipment, chemicals and polymers, long-shelf-life food products.
What to watch on this lane
- The sea leg ends at a port — the cargo still travels overland afterwards, and the total time is the sum of legs.
- Ceramics and tiles break when badly stowed: palletising and securing inside the container matter more than on a short road leg.
- Transhipment at the port and the onward road leg add time that the vessel schedule does not show.
- Container demurrage is billed separately — the documents must be ready when the vessel arrives, not after.

Cargo shipping from Turkey or official import?
“Cargo” here means shipping by weight without a declaration: cheaper at the border, but the goods cannot go on your balance sheet, the VAT cannot be reclaimed and nothing can be sold under a contract. For a commercial consignment work out the full cost rather than the per-kilo rate: on an official import the duty and VAT are visible from the start, with grey shipping they surface later — as a fine, or as goods you cannot sell legally. We ship officially only: declaration, invoice, contract.
Shipping the other way?
We run that leg too: export clearance, plus the documents that spare your buyer the import duty.

Frequently asked questions
How does grey cargo differ from your shipping?
Grey cargo moves by weight without a declaration — cheaper at the border, but the goods cannot go on your balance sheet, the VAT cannot be reclaimed and nothing can be sold under a contract. We ship officially: declaration, duty, VAT, invoice. For a commercial consignment compare the full cost, not the per-kilo rate — at volume the official route often works out cheaper.
Which modes do you use from Turkey?
Road freight, Air freight, Sea and container freight. We price the options and show the trade-off in cost and time.
How much does shipping from Turkey cost?
The rate depends on weight, volume, cargo type and season. Send us the parameters and we will come back with a quote.
What documents are required?
Invoice, packing list, contract and the transport document — on this lane that means a CMR, an air waybill, a bill of lading. We advise the full list for your specific cargo.
Do you handle customs clearance?
Yes, for cargo we carry ourselves: one company answers for both the transport and the customs, under one contract for the whole route. Cargo on this lane enters through Iran, the Caspian, Turkmenistan and runs to the warehouse under customs transit. We do not take on customs clearance separately from carriage.
