A carrier’s liability and cargo insurance are different things, and the difference shows up on a bad day. Under the CMR convention the carrier answers for weight, not value: 8.33 SDR per kilogram. For a pallet of electronics that figure bears no relation to what it cost. A policy covers the value of the goods, which is why light expensive cargo travels badly without one.
What it covers
- We issue a policy for a single consignment, or an open cover for a flow of shipments.
- We match the cover: from all-risks down to a narrow one against casualty and total loss.
- We set the sum insured from the invoice value, with freight and duties added if you want.
- We insure groupage consignments too, not only full trucks.
- If something happens, we assemble the claim documents — that is our job, not yours.
What we need from you
- The invoice showing the value of the goods
- The packing list: weight, number of packages, type of packing
- The route and mode of transport
- The nature of the goods: fragility, temperature regime, hazardous properties

Frequently asked questions
Doesn’t the carrier answer for the cargo anyway?
It does, but within a limit: under CMR that is 8.33 SDR per kilogram of weight, not the value of the goods. Light expensive cargo is not covered anywhere near.
What does insurance cost?
The rate is a percentage of the sum insured and depends on the goods, the route and the mode. We quote once we know those three.
What does a policy not cover?
The usual exclusions: manufacturing defects, natural loss in transit, bad packing by the shipper, wilful acts. The full list is in the insurer’s rules — read them before signing, not after an incident.
Is insurance compulsory?
No. We offer it and explain how it differs from carrier liability, but the decision is yours.
